Geothermal Data: Why it's Important and How it's Used

In preparation for the Year 3 Statements of Work under the AASG State Geothermal Data project, AZGS hosted a webinar on Geothermal Data: why it’s important and how it’s used.  Speakers Martin Kay, Will Gosnold, and Joe Iovenitti presented on gathering geothermal relevant data from oil & gas data, conducting a resource assessment, and a case study on geoscience data for EGS siting.

A full PDF of the presentation is available here.

The sheet presented on data required for geothermal development by SMU is available here.

USGIN/OneGeology Workshop Prep and Introduction to GeoSciML Portrayal

On May 3-4, 2012 the AZGS and USGS are hosting a workshop on the U.S. Geoscience Information Network (USGIN) map data interoperability. USGIN is the platform on which the National Geothermal Data System is being built. This webinar provides participants an overview of the workshop program and includes instructions and information on the datasets that should be brought to the webinar. Additional background on the workshop, including reference documents that should be reviewed prior to the workshop, are available here: http://www.stategeothermaldata.org/content/usginonegeology_us_map_services_workshop

An introduction to International Geo Sample Number and System for Earth Sample Registration

On Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 11am MST, Dr. Kerstin Lehnert of Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory introduced the International Geo Sample Number (IGSN) developed by the System for Earth Sample Registration (SESAR). Dr. Lehnert is provided this webinar specifically for the State Geological Surveys participating in the National Geothermal Data System. Questions discussed were: What is IGSN? Why register samples? How to register samples? How is this relevant to geothermal data and the geothermal data system?

Reviewing Data for Online Delivery

The Reviewing Data for Online Delivery webinar covers topics on data delivery problems, the use of the templates and specifics about their worksheets, a brief review of the Identifiers and URI's as well as review on the metadata for the datasets. There is also an overview of the geochemistry template currently in testing, as well as a look at the new face of the State Geothermal Data website and its features.
