User Scenarios

User scenarios are example situations in which someone has some work that needs to be done, and the process by which the information system might be used to complete or facilitate that work.

Scenario Estimating drilling costs: A home owner is considering installation of a ground loop heat pump system, and the installer needs some way to estimate drilling costs. A search in the NGDS catalog reveals a service that will report the vertical profile of materials beneath a given location, which may be specified by giving a street address. The report provides estimated depth to bedrock, and a forecast for the sequence of materials and their thickness that is likely to be encountered when drilling, at least to the uppermost bedrock unit.
